************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Bobby,

Could you, please, check, what version has this dll:

%Program Files%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\ReportingServicesWMI.dll

?

For SP2 it should be 2005.90.3042.0.

I would also recommend to take a look at this file: ReportingServices.mof or ReportingServicesXPSP2UP.mof, in the same location (you should find only one if them, depending on your OS). See if you find in your mof file a class called MSReportServer_Instance and a property of this class called IsSharePointIntegrated.

Hi Mihaela,

ReportingServicesWMI.DLL version: 2005.090.3042.00

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared>findstr -i MSReportServer_Instance *.mof
ReportingServicesXPSP2up.mof://* Class: MSReportServer_Instance (lives in v9)

Bobby,

It seems that you have the right version of ReportingServicesWMI.dll.

First I would suggest to restart the WMI service and after this try to connect again using the config tool and see what is happening. The WMI service "long name" is Windows Management Instrumentation.

If this is still not working, I would suggest to restart your Reporting Services service and try to connect again using the config tool.

I would also suggest to take a look in the log files located here:

%Program Files%\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\LogFiles

You should look for a file whose name starts with ReportServerService or ReportServerService_main.

I would suggest to sort the files by Date Modified descending and, after you try to connect using the config tool and you see the exception, take a look at the newest log file for the Windows service and see what was logged there.

Mihaela

Hi Mihaela,

After rebooting the box, RSConfigTool.exe is working...

Not sure why it didn't work before.

Thanks for your help.

RS_BooksOnline error 2711

I'm doing the command line install with
setup.exe /settings.
In my ini file, I have the following enry (watch for line
wrap):
ADDLOCAL=RS_Server,RS_Manager,RS_Designer,RS_Admin_Tools,RS
_BooksOnline_EN,RS_Samples,RS_AdventureWorks
The setup fails, and in the setup log file, I have this
error:
DEBUG: Error 2711: The specified Feature name
('RS_BooksOnline_EN') not found in Feature Table.
The installer has encountered an unexpected error
installing this package. This may indicate a problem with
this package. The error code is 2711. The arguments are:
RS_BooksOnline_EN, ,
MSI (s) (18:A0): Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2000
Reporting Services Developer Edition -- The installer has
encountered an unexpected error installing this package.
This may indicate a problem with this package. The error
code is 2711. The arguments are
: RS_BooksOnline_EN, ,
Question: if RS_BooksONline_EN is not the right entry,
what should be?
JoeTry RS_BooksOnline_1033. It looks like the sample template.ini is
incorrect.

rs.exe utility : Could not connect to server...

I'm trying to use rs.exe (used on command line cmd.exe) to publish my reports
and I get this error:
Could not connect to server:
http://myserver.com/reportserver/ReportService.asmx
When I access http://myserver.com/reportserver/ReportService.asmx with IE6,
I get an XML file displayed on the browser (I presume the content of
ReportService.asmx).
I type following command on cmd :
rs -i C:\myScripts\script.rss -u myUserName -p myPassword -s
http://myserver.com/reportServer -v parentFolder="TestPublishRSS1"
Any advice to make it work ?
Thanks
MacflyI am also getting same error but this used to work with the CTP version.
My error says
"Could not connect to server:
http://myserver.com/reportserver/ReportService2005.asmx".
Please let me know, if this problem is resolved.
Thanks,

rs.exe to connect. When I switched the rule off then the rs is working like a
champ.
Use>> rs -s <server> -i <inputfile> -t
-T is the switch to trace. This would give more info on why it is not
connecting.
Check with the Firewall and Virus scan whether the rs.exe is been blocked.
Hope this helps!.

RS.EXE SCRIPT TU AUTOMATE REPORT EXECUTION

Hi,
I am searchig RSS script for RS.EXE to automate excution/run of reports.
I would like to be able to generate reports both in PDF and Excel and store
them in a predefined Server Folder.
There is 2 RSS samples even in SP1 and none of them is doing such job.
I think it could be useful to a lot of people.
Many ThanksJean-Marc,
If you want to automate report deliviery, you don't have to use rs.exe. In
report manager, check out data-driven subscriptions.

I know this Reporting Services features.
BUT, I have to do it in automatically in our company Product independently
of any Reporting Services User Interface.
Best Regards.

the capability to do what you are talking about. Use web services to setup
the data driven subscriptions. I think you still want to do that, why
reinvent the wheel.

RS.exe and executables

I'm currently working on automating the installation of a set of reports to a reports server, using a few scripts run with rs.exe. It works well, however, the overhead of having the scripts compiled and then executed is unacceptable. I'm wondering if anyone is aware of a (non-hack) method to keep the executable produced by the rs.exe? Or any other way, short of writing my own application.

Thanks in advance.
This is an interesting feature request that I have not seen before. Unfortunately, there is currently no supported way to do this.

RS.exe and date-type parameter.

Hi All,

I have a report with 4 parameters, 2 of them are date-type parameter. I intend to run this report via RS.exe by passing different parameters for different scenario. The issue that I have at the moment is passing date-type parameter via the VB Script file.

In my report I use "dd-mm-yy" format. I tried many ways to assign date value to my parameters, but I am always getting the following error:

"Unhandled exception: Default value or value provided for the report parameter 'myParam' is not a valid value".

Syntax that I use:

myParam = "01-01-1900"

myParam = DateTime.Parse("01-01-1900")

myParam = DateTime.Parse("#01-01-1900#")

All of them didn't work.

My question: how to assign date value to the parameter?

Many Thanks,

Man

Can you post your script?|||

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. However I solved the issue by changing the date format to US format (mm/dd/yy).

Cheers,

XL

rs.exe - SetReportDataSources error

Hi,
I wanted to ask if anyone else has found a problem with rs.exe when trying to use the SetReportDataSources method.
The line appears as RS.SetReportDataSources(fullpath, dataSources)
The error is BC30456 - 'SetReportDataSorces' is not a member of 'Microsoft.SqlServer.ReportingServices2005.ReportingService2005'.
The aim is to design a single set of reports, that will be deployed to different folders with a different datasource per folder. Each datasource connects to an cube that is set up on a database of client data. There is therefore one database and one cube per client, and all databases and cubes have the same structure. This is being done to allow outside clients to view their own reports without being able to see other clients data.
Anyone else have a similar problem and fixed it, or could offer any hints?
Many thanks - Leo.

In SQL 2005, the name of this method is now called 'SetItemDataSources'. If you want to use the SQL 2000 RS endpoint, you need to run rs.exe with the -e option.

RS Memory Leak?

I am testing the SQL Web Reporting Services and noticed that the memory
usage of sqlservr.exe and w3wp.exe remain at a high level even though all
the client applications were closed. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix?
Thanks.
FabianThe two exe's you mention have nothing directly to do with Reporting
Services. Reporting Services is an asp.net application that uses SQL Server
as an object store.
Here is a good article about how SQL Server manages memory:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321363
An excerpt from the article:
>>>>>>>>>>
When you start SQL Server, SQL Server memory usage may continue to steadily
increase and not decrease, even when activity on the server is low.
Additionally, the Task Manager and Performance Monitor may show that the
physical memory available on the computer is steadily decreasing until the
available memory is between 4 to 10 MB.
This behavior alone does not indicate a memory leak. This behavior is normal
and is an intended behavior of the SQL Server buffer pool.
By default, SQL Server dynamically grows and shrinks the size of its buffer
pool (cache) depending on the physical memory load reported by the operating
system. As long as enough memory is available to prevent paging (between 4 -
10 MB), the SQL Server buffer pool will continue to grow. As other processes
on the same computer as SQL Server allocate memory, the SQL Server buffer
manager will release memory as needed. SQL Server can free and acquire
several megabytes of memory each second, allowing it to quickly adjust to
memory allocation changes.
