************** JIT Debugging ************** To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this application or computer (machine.config) must have the jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging enabled.

For example:

<configuration>

<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" /> </configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Not quite sure if this will help, but I do not what this method Is. Basically its a method on the Data Extension to retrieve the properties of the command object, within the Report Designer.

Do you know which Data extension the report is using (SQL Server, Oracle or maybe a Custom data extension?)

|||

We are using SQL Server.

It appears that we may have solved this issue by reinstalling RS SP1. I'm unsure why we were receiving this error though but it is gone now.

Thanks for your help.

I have reporting services installed on my xp laptop and haven't used it for a
while. Now when I try to run a report I get the following error message.
@.AwaitingFirstExecution is not a parameter for procedure CreateSession
Anybody seen this before? I can't find any information about this.
Thanks
MGSounds like the report is calling a stored procedure called "CreateSession".
Is that a datasource of your report? If not, make sure you have enough
permission to run the report.

that I try to run return this same message. All work fine when I run from

After working with Microsoft, they determined that the error had to do with
the AMD processor on our server. Are you using an AMD processor?

RSExecutionLog_Update.dtsx error!!

Hi,

When I execute the RSExecutionLog_Update.dtsx, I get an error saying "The task "Set Time period" cannot run on this edition of Integration Services. It requires higher level edition". I am using the Proffesional Edition of SQL2005 and the Integration Services Version is 9.00.1399.00. I have configured the target database RSExecutionLog correctly. Wat could be the problem?

TIA

Is this a script task that is specifically generating this error? You can tell by looking in the execution progress to see which task is creating the error.

I am receiving this error on script tasks and I wanted to see if you have found a work-around or a solution to the error.

|||

As far as I know there is no Professional Editio of SQL 2005. We have Express, Workgroup, Standard and Enterprise.

RSExecutionLog_Update.dts fails for named SQL Instance

Hi:
I am running SRS on a named instance of SQL. When I attempt to run this DTS
package, it fails on the five update steps with the error message "Cannot
open database requested in login 'ReportServer'. Login fails."
How can I point it to the non-default instance of SQL.
Thanks in advance.
Bruce.Have you tried changing the server name in the RSExecutionLog_Update.ini
file? I have never used the package with a non-default instance of SQL
server, but I assume it should work when you make the appropriate edits in
the above ini file.

It worked! I changed the server setting for both the source and destination
from (local) to ServerName\SQLInstanceName and the DTS package executed as
intented!
Thanks for the quick and accurate reply!

rsErrorOpeningConnection

Hi,
I really really need some help with the problem below. I

am having problems trying to run reports from a VB.Net application. The problem

is as follows:

SQL Server 2005, SQL Server Reporting Services and the VB

.NET application called ‘risk-op’ are on a server.

A user tries to access the application from a remote

computer. The application is displayed and the user is able to do everything.

However when the user tries to click ‘Go’ for one of the reports the following

error is displayed:

An

error has occurred during processing (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot

create a connection to data source ‘risk-op’ (rsErrorOpeningConnection)

This error occurs

because the user is not a user on the SQL server database. However if I add the

user to the database the user is able to then view the report.

The

reason for this is because reporting services is configured to use windows

authentication as shown below. As a result when the user presses ‘Go’ to view a

report, reporting services tries to connect to the database using windows authentication

and if that user is not setup as a user on the database the user is then not

able to view the report.

I need to get around this problem. I don’t want to have to

manually add users to the database every time (that maintenance for a couple of

hundred people would be a disaster!)

I believe that a way around this would be to use ‘Credentials

stored securely in the report server’ in SQL Server Reporting Services. Is this

the way to do it and if so, where do I add these credentials to the report

server?

I came across an article that said “Credentials are stored in

reversible encryption in the report server database. You can specify one set of

stored credentials for each data source used in a report. The credentials you

provide retrieve the same data for every user who runs the report.”

How do I add these credentials and is this the answer to my

problem?

Do I have to change something in the RSreportserver.config

file?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
Ian

No you can simply switch that in the data source section by specifying a custom data source for the report. By switching, you will use SQL Server Authentication instead of Windows Authentication.

If you want to do that on a server level and you want to use Windows authentication rather than SQL Server authentication, you could use one Windows User for Reporting Services, enable Anynomous authentication on the Web Server and specify the use under the IIS context for Anonymous Authentication.

HTH, Jens Suessmeyer.

Hi Jens,

Thanks for your reply.
You said,

Ok so in the web front end of SQL Server Reporting Services I just untick Windows auth and tick SQL Server auth instead? I tried doing this but it didn’t work. (presumably because I hadn’t created the SQL Server user to authenticate? Is it just a case of creating a user on the database?)

You then say “you could use one Windows User for Reporting Service”, how do I do this?

“enable Anynomous authentication on the Web Server” – I have that done in IIS on the web server for the folder ‘risk-op’ which is where my application is but do I actually have to allow anonymous access somewhere else?
Thanks again, your help is much appreciated,
Ian

Ok so in the web front end of SQL Server Reporting Services I just untick Windows auth and tick SQL Server auth instead? I tried doing this but it didn’t work. (presumably because I hadn’t created the SQL Server user to authenticate? Is it just a case of creating a user on the database?)

You then say “you could use one Windows User for Reporting Service”, how do I do this?

“enable Anynomous authentication on the Web Server” – I have that done in IIS on the web server for the folder ‘risk-op’ which is where my application is but do I actually have to allow anonymous access somewhere else?
Thanks again, your help is much appreciated,
Ian

RSCONFIG password problems

I need to run RSCONFIG and change the account used for reporting
services. The password I need to use has the character | (it looks like
two sideways minus sings one on top of the other)
When rsconfig runs, I get the error "the rest of the statement is not
recognized" and the text after that character is then displayed.
Can anyone tell me what escape character can I place in front of the |
character so that the command line utility sees that character as part
of the password?Have you tried enclosing the the password and argument in quotes?

Our password is something like this kl9O7|mi05 The error we were
getting was "the remaining text is not recognized mi05".
Putting quotes around the password did not work. My DBA figured out
that placing a ^ in front of the | character worked.
I now have a different problem, but at least I now know how to pass
oddball charactered passwords (are there really any other type) to the
RSCONFIG utility.

RSCONFIG did not modify RSReportServer.config all the way

A couple of months ago we changed the username that SQL 2000 reporting
services uses to run. Since then it has been running fine.
Last week I tried to add a new user to the system and I get the error,
The user or group name 'DOMAIN\USERNAME' is not recognized.
The username it is returning is the OLD username that we replaced 2
months ago.
Here is the command line I am using RSCONFIG -c -s antbearxa\sqldev18
-d ReportingServices -a WINDOWS -u <USERNAME> -p <PASSWORD>.
The system runs fine, it is just when I go to add another user that I
get the error pointing to the old login account that is no longer
valid.
--
Leo BonnesIt turned out to be a leftover account instance in Reporting Services.
Thank you Hemant at Microsoft!
The user that I removed as the Reporting Services database login
account was still a user in the Reporting Services database. It was a
domain account and after we changed the account a few weeks later it
was retired. Once I deleted that user, adding a new user worked.
I guess it was in the validation phase after I tried to add a new user
to Reporting Services that it was failing. Now the question remains why
is a domain account that no longer exist in Repoting Services still
showing up?sql

RSClientPrint ActiveX causes client PC to reboot

We have a client PC trying to run a report. When they hit the print button it
first asks them to install a SQL active X control which is RSClientPrint
Class. Once installed they hit the print button on the report which then
loads the active X print dialog - when they hit print their system reboots.
I had this person delete the control and go through the same process with
the same results; they are running Windows XP SP2 with IE6.
Any ideas? Thank You.That is exactly what I am running (XP SP2 IE6).
Are they in the local administrators group on the machine (i.e. do they have
the rights to install the activeX control?)
Do they have any printers connected to their PC? This is printing locally
not at the server.

I have one computer (WinXP, DELL laptop, 2 years old) with a HP1320 printer
connected. the RS Client print alway causes "blue screen death" when try to
print report. Printing anything else is OK.
However, the printer prints RS report OK when connected to any other
computers. So, I guess it is some sort of hardware issue with that
particular computer/printer combination. The solution is by that user a
different printer. Now the reporting print with that computer is fine and
the previous computer also happily work with other computer when printing RS
report.
So, you may try to update the printer's driver first, and then try to use a
different computer.
Just an experience using RS2000 printing. RS2000 reporitn rendering/printing
horribly bad.

I found a solution for your problem. You probably installed the hotfix
925902 recently. Its a known issue for Microsoft. Some printers only (until
now : Ricoh LAN Fax Driver, Gestetner P7026n PCL, Ricoh Laser AP2600N PCL,
HP LaserJet 9050, HP LaserJet 4200, HP 4050 PCL6, HP LaserJet 4345 PCL 6 and
Canon Pixma MP170) are impacted.
This problem occurs when a printer driver makes a call that has invalid
parameters to the Win32K.sys component.
The hotfix KB935843 solved the problem on my computer.

RSClientPrint - Error on some clients

I have several new PCs that I am setting up to run an RS ASP.net application. The Dells work fine. The Gateway gives a print error message 'An error occurred during printing (0x80070006)' and then a script error 'the handle is invalid'. I have tried various things, such as, disabling popup blockers, tool bars and changing IE settings. Nothing makes it work. The only difference between the machines is that the Gateway has Norton Anti-Virus loaded. Tried disabling it but still got the error. I have searched the internet and cannot find a similar error. Need help fast, deploying in 2 weeks.

Hi mark,

I've had the same problem at a client. Did you do an upgrade to SQL Server 2005 or installed a service pack for reporting services ?

The problem is that when the user tries to print a reporting services report, an ActiveX is installed on the user's pc (C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files\RsClientPrint Class).

When upgrading to a new version or installing a service pack, the component needs to be upgraded. Apparently this doesn't always work that well.

When you remove the component (by right clicking it in c:\windows\...) and try to print a page, you will see that a new version will be installed and that you can print again.

I didn't figured out a good way to deploy this yet because user's don't have sufficient rights to install ActiveX components. It might work if you put the site in the Trusted Sites.

Hope this helps !

rsactivate error - trying to install on 2003 with Sharepoint servi

I am trying to install SQL Reporting Services on a Windows Server 2003 box
that is running Sharepoint Services 2.0.
When you run the install you are warned that you will need to manually
initialize SQL Reporting because of Sharepoint and are referred to the
documentation. In the rssetup.chm there is an article entitled
"Troubleshooting a Side-by-Side Installation of Reporting Services and
Windows SharePoint Services". I followed these instructions, but when I get
to the last step where you run rsactivate, I get an error:
Failure starting the web service:
The service is already activated.
I did have reporting installed on this server once before but it was
uninstalled. I tried uninstalling reporting services when I got this error,
then tried again but I get the same result. I've been deleting the virtual
directories, the program files folder, and the databases before trying again.
I also noticed that two com + packages are left behind. If you don't remove
them the next installation adds two more. I removed all of them and tried
again but still the same result. I don't possess any knowledge of web
services so I'm not sure where to look next.
Can anyone help please?

you ran or installed something that reset the password on your ASPNet
account. Installing a version of the .Net framework will do this. So will
running aspnet_regiis. When the password is reset (reset = changed without
supplying the original one) on an account, the decryption keys associated
with that account are lost. There is probably an event in your windows
event log that indicates this happened.

windows service is not activating automatically because it thinks another
report server is using the database. If this is not the case, you can clear
out the old entries by running rskeymgmt -d, then restart the windows and
web service.

rsactivate error

I tray of run the rsactivate, show me the error.
*******************************************************
C:\>rsactivate -c "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting
Services\ReportServer\rsreportserver.config"
Failure starting the web service:
The local NT Service is not activated 0x800a0bcd
*******************************************************
I followed the installation instruction and the proccess that I attached
below.
*******************************************************
" Customer gave full permissions to IUSR, IWAM, and ASPNET users on the
following key using regedt32 and reinstalled SQL Server Reporting
Services successfully.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application"
Another case, the solution was:
"Since my default port does not use port 80, I had to change both the
server.config and rswebapplication.config files to use a different port. I
then ran the rsactivate command and all is now well."
I hope one of these will resolve your issue too.
From your descriptions, I understood that you cannot access Report server
and Report Manager via the web. Have I understood you? Correct me if I was
wrong.
First of all, what the error message from setup application. Was it "Setup
could not initialize the report server. You must manually initialize the
report server before using it for the first time. For more information, see
the Reporting Services setup documentation."?
Secondly, please make sure that your Reporting Services Startup Account was
main account and it is also a part of the Local Admins group on the machine.
Based on my scope, it seems like something was wrong with the event source
Report Manager from log files and it likes an permission issue. Please take
the steps below and tell me what happened
1. go to http://localhost/ReportServer What's the error message? I expected
it to be "Event source: Report Manager does not exist"
2. run C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_regiis.exe -i
assuming .net was installed in C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\)
3. open C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting
Services\ReportServer\RSReportServer.config file. Search for this tag,
<InstallationID> and take the GUID (For example, the GUID for me is
{93850a3c-a856-4ce9-af25-6b3cdaa98dd8})
4. Use the GUID that we got before and try to remove the keys in the table
like this
RSKEYMGMT -R "{<guid>}"
5. Then run RSACTIVATE -C "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services\ReportServer\RSReportServer.config" > (make
sure the path is the one you installed Reporting Services)
If there is any error message shows here, please let me know and it is very
importantHi Antonio,
Sorry for the delay.
1. Run rskeymgmt with the -d argument to delete all encrypted content. You
can type rskeymgmt -? to get help about specific arguments.
2. Run rsconfig utility to specify report server connection information
(you must specify these arguments: -s, -d, -a, -u, -p). You can type
rsconfig -? to get help about specific arguments.
3. Restart both IIS and the ReportServer Windows service.
4. Run rsactivate utility to activate the server (you must specify these
arguments: -c, -u, -p). For argument -c, enclose the path information in
double-quotation marks. You can type rsactivate -? to get more help about
specific arguments.
Additionally, is it possible for you to reinstall the Reporting Services?
Sincerely yours,
Michael Cheng

RSActivate - how do I run it successfuly?

I am getting an error...
"The report server installation is not initialized. Check the documentation
for more information. (rsReportServerNotActivated)"
I went to the MSDN site to find a fix...
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/rsuiref/htm/cpu_rsconfig_v1_6yqq.asp
When I use rsactivate regardless of the switch I get...
Either the WMI provider or the path to the local config file must be specified
I have used the path to the BINN and the path to the rs config files, none
work.
Can you please send me the correct syntax and/ro path and/or utility?
Sincerelly and crossing my fingers that you will respond,
Vic ZDid you find a solution for your problem? I have a similar problem and havnt
found any good answers...

rsAcessDenied when running the report

  • I got this error "
  • The permissions granted to user 'DomainName\UserName' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) " when I run the report. Somebody help me.

    Manao

Check out the security permissions the folder where the report reisdes in and ensure that the userid or the group the user belongs to has at least browser access.

  • rsAccessDenied

I have a reportViewer control on a webform. In my partial class I set the report path, server and parameters in the Page_Load. When I run the report I get this error:

  • The permissions granted to user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)

    Here is my code:

    Dim u As New UriTypeConverter
    Dim ReportParameters(0) As ReportParameter

    ReportParameters(0) = New ReportParameter("ProjectKey", 262)
    rv.ShowParameterPrompts = False
    rv.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = u.ConvertFromString("http://localhost/ReportServer/")
    rv.ServerReport.ReportPath = "/Test/Duplicate_MIU_Report"
    rv.ServerReport.SetParameters(ReportParameters)

Have you properly granted permission for your web user? Go to the configuration tool, and look for any red X on the left hand side. Open the "Web service identity" and make sure your web user is 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE". Then go to "Database Setup" panel. I think you are using "Service Credentials". Reapply the settings may fix your problem.|||

I have NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService as the service account (it is grayed out so it is not possible to change), and I have Service Credentials as the credentials type in the database setup. There are no red X's. Still get the same error.

In addition, I get this DCOM error in the system log:

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

    {BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}

to the user NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

I'm not exactly sure what and how to do in Component Services admin tool.
