rsInternalError
An internal error occurred on the report server.
See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError)
Invalid text, ntext, or image pointer value
0xFDFF7F5F000000000303000001000200.
The statement has been terminated.
This happens to all reports I am trying to deploy either through VS.NET or
froom rds file
How do I resolve it?
Thanks,
-StanHI,
Did you ever resolve this issue? I'm getting the same message. Just
started during my last attempt to deploy.
thanks

What can I do, to solve this?Sounds like your configuration file DSN element has become invalid. Running
rsconfig should solve this problem.

RSExecutionLog_Update.dts fails for named SQL Instance
I am running SRS on a named instance of SQL. When I attempt to run this DTS
package, it fails on the five update steps with the error message "Cannot
open database requested in login 'ReportServer'. Login fails."
How can I point it to the non-default instance of SQL.
Thanks in advance.
Bruce.Have you tried changing the server name in the RSExecutionLog_Update.ini
file? I have never used the package with a non-default instance of SQL
server, but I assume it should work when you make the appropriate edits in
the above ini file.

It worked! I changed the server setting for both the source and destination
from (local) to ServerName\SQLInstanceName and the DTS package executed as
intented!
Thanks for the quick and accurate reply!

keep my work on that. I know I googled around for an answer and it seems that
it had to do with getting the cab file in the right location. Sorry. If I

mention what it was while it's still fresh on my mind.

RSClientPrint - Error on some clients
Hi mark,
I've had the same problem at a client. Did you do an upgrade to SQL Server 2005 or installed a service pack for reporting services ?
The problem is that when the user tries to print a reporting services report, an ActiveX is installed on the user's pc (C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files\RsClientPrint Class).
When upgrading to a new version or installing a service pack, the component needs to be upgraded. Apparently this doesn't always work that well.
When you remove the component (by right clicking it in c:\windows\...) and try to print a page, you will see that a new version will be installed and that you can print again.
I didn't figured out a good way to deploy this yet because user's don't have sufficient rights to install ActiveX components. It might work if you put the site in the Trusted Sites.
Hope this helps !

rsactivate error message
Hello all,
Since I installed SQL Server 2005 on the same server than SQL 2000, my Reporting Service is getting me this error:
"The report server cannot decrypt the symmetric key used to access sensitive or encrypted data in a report server database. You must either restore a backup key or delete all encrypted content and then restart the service. Check the documentation for more information. (rsReportServerDisabled) Get Online Help
Bad Data. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80090005)"
I looked over some other logs and forums, and pretty much all pointed to use the rsactivate utility. Well, I am getting frustrated trying to run the rsactivate utility since I typed in the command rsactivate -r and got an error message that didn't expect to get.
Ej:
C:\>rsactivate -r
Either the WMI provider or the path to the local config file must be specified
Then I typed in the path and still got this:
C:\>rsactivate -r "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services\ReportServer\RSReportServer.config"
Either the WMI provider or the path to the local config file must be specified
Does someone out there have had this situation or escenario before and what you did to solve it?....
I really need an input or hint on this, so I will appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.

Hi I think your using the wrong command... To reactivate you must use the -c option, try this command reactivate -c "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services\ReportServer\RSReportServer.config"rsAccessDenied for authorised user.
cannot access the report we designed. They receive the message:
The permissions granted to user '{domain}\{userID}' are insufficient
for performing
this operation. (rsAccessDenied)
The strange thing here is that I granted access to a group (Domain
Users) which holds all the users of this domain. I tested with 3 users
who all could access the report. Of course I thought that if these
users could access the report, other users should be able to access the
report too. But, when I tested with a fourth user I got the error as
stated above. I checked the rights for the group on the folders and
reports, but they are ok. So what am I misssing here?
I also tried to sign individual rights to the userId, but no luck
either. Then I tried to use an other userId too (fith userid for the
test) , same result, no access. So in my group "Domain Users" , which
holds all the users of the domain. Three users can access the report
and so far two can not. I didn't test with other accounts except for
these 5, that should be enough, don't you think?
We do not use "Anonymous Access" anywhere.
The server is Standard 2003
MS SQL 2000
Reporting Services 2000
Any help would be appriciatedOk, found out what the problem was. I didn't set the right permissions
on the top-level. So, first I had to set de security permissions in RS
on te "root"-folder, then on the subfolders and so on to the reports.
This solved my problemsql

The repository and scratch (temdb) may reside on separate servers. Just be
aware that you need a license for each server (at least I think this is the
case). For example, if you bought a per-processor license for 4 processors
and you split to 2 4proc machines, you need to true up to 4 more
processors...

1.. Decide which accounts to use for Report Server services. Reporting
Services requires three accounts:
2.. Report Server Windows service requires an account to log on to the
local system. Microsoft recommends that you use Local System if you are
installing on Windows 2000. For more information about this recommendation,
see Service Account.
3.. Report Server Web service requires an account to log on to the local
system. Because it is an ASP.NET application, it runs using the ASPNET
account. If you are running Windows 2000, you cannot specify a different
account to use during Setup; you must use the account that is defined for
ASP.NET. If you are running Windows Server 2003, the default is Network
Service, but you can choose to run the service as Local System.
4.. Report Server Web service requires an account to log on to the SQL
Server instance that hosts the report server database. You can specify a
domain account, a SQL Server login, or Local System. You can also use the
credentials that the Report Server Web service uses to log on to the system.
For more information, see Report Server Database Setup.

i think for the subscription to work you need to have Credentials stored
securely in the report server. Subscription will not work for reports which
dont have this stored credentials. When you run the report it will work, but
subscription will not work. The reason is DataSources for that report does
not have stored credentials i.e it has either have windows credential or no
credential. in order that reports have subscrpiton enabled you have to check
the "Credentials stored securely in the report server" and enter the user
name and pwd. you can either enter a sql login or windows login based on the
authentication type. and finally click Apply button to store it. Then do the
subscrpion it will work.

Thanks for the reply, but all of my data sources already use stored
credentials (sql-server's sa user, ..., yeah I know ...). So I still think
it has something to do with the win2000 environment and rs supplied
credentials. Have another look at the reported error, it talks about
impersonation, tokens and the windows user/password/domain combo wich are
not used by SQL authenticating data sources.

Are you using any custom dataset extension or custom assemblie?
why cant you give a domain\windowuser and pwd and click the check box below
"Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source" in the
datasource and try running the report. see if its work.

RS-2000 Report Manager time out(?)
I have a query that takes about 2 minutes to complete, but Report Manager displays the Web Page Cannot be Found message at precisely 1 minute after submitting. I'm assuming that this is a time limit that is set somewhere. Is there a setting I can change, either in IIS or in Reporting Services, to extend this time limit? I have looked and whatever I have changed doesn't seem to make any difference?
Thanks,
Al
There are settings on both individual reports and on the server as a whole.
You can get to the system wide settings by going to 'Site Settings' in Report Manager.
Individual reports can be changed by going to the report properties, then 'Execution' within Report Manager.

RS2000 Install error
just as it begins trying to install the "Microsoft SQL Server Reporting
Services Setup Support Files".
It makes it through the setup of WinInstall and .NET Framework1.1 just fine
but as soon as it get to trying to install the RS Setup Support Files it just
stops with the generic "Error!" message and the only option is to cancel.
I've setup RS2000 on many WinXP, Win2000 Server, and Win2003 Servers with NO
problem, but I've been beating my head aginst this one for over a week.
The server is Win2K SP4, local install of SQL Server 2K SP3a. .NET v1.1 is
installed and ASP.NET has been installed in IIS and DTC is running. Being
completely confused I installed VS.NET2003 on the server (as they use a lot
of the same stuff). VS.NET 2003 installed no problem, but after RS2000 still
just gives me the generic "Error!" message.
There are no errors being recorded in the event viewer, SQL logs, or the log
that should be created during RS install (in the RS Bootstrapper dir) since
it isn't even created since it fails before we actually get to the RS install
(just gets to the pre-install stuff).
I'm really out of ideas here! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! One additional detail which may (or may not) be helpful.
It is SQL 2000 Standard and RS2000 Standard

but same problem occurs (the generic "Error!" message when beginning install

The server I'm trying to install on is a production server dedicated to SQL
Server. The only other thing installed is Mcafee enterprise virus protection
(I disable and stop all Macafee related services before each install attempt).
I've copied the SQL Reporting Services Standard install locally from 2
different DVDs (wondering of the the first was corrupt). Then I tried SQL
Reporting Services Developer version because, hey at this point all try
anything ;-).
If I don't hear anymore suggestions, I guess the next thing is to try
rebuilding the server though as its a production machine I'm not too crazy
about this idea.

I have experienced this issue twice now, and not found the answer. Both
times on a Win2K server (don't know whether that has anything to do with it).
The Australian MS Support guys tried to help me the first time I experienced
it at a customer site. Because we ran out of time we ended up rebuilding the
machine and RS installed no problem thereafter. At the time I put the issue
down to a one off issue. During the time we were trying to find the problem I
posted here under "Cannot install Setup Support Files" but didn't hear
anything back.
I was on another client site a couple of weeks ago and experienced the same
issue again. This time I didn't have the luxury of being able to rebuild the
machine. We had to abort the install on that machine.
The common thread between the two cases has been:
1. Both were installs of RS Standard - using different disks from different
sources
2. Both were on Win2K Server SP4
3. When looking at the Setup Bootstrap log files both systems fell over when
trying to perform the "PerformDetections" function. From what I can gather
this is a function that produces the output we're supposed to see on the next
screen (that we can't get to on account of the error) of the setup wizard,
where you are told/warned either "IIS is not installed", "VS.NET 2003 is not
installed" etc.etc. It seems there is a part/s of the cache that cannot be
read...
Both of the clients I was working for were not requiring production installs
of RS so there were (thankfully) no real repercussions for the failed
installs. My company is doing a lot of RS work so I really want to find out
what this issue is, though, so that when (if) I come accross it again I can
get past the error.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to assist in finding an
answer to this issue.
Cheers,
Nick Barclay
