RSExecutionLog_Update.dts fails for named SQL Instance

Hi:
I am running SRS on a named instance of SQL. When I attempt to run this DTS
package, it fails on the five update steps with the error message "Cannot
open database requested in login 'ReportServer'. Login fails."
How can I point it to the non-default instance of SQL.
Thanks in advance.
Bruce.Have you tried changing the server name in the RSExecutionLog_Update.ini
file? I have never used the package with a non-default instance of SQL
server, but I assume it should work when you make the appropriate edits in
the above ini file.

It worked! I changed the server setting for both the source and destination
from (local) to ServerName\SQLInstanceName and the DTS package executed as
intented!
Thanks for the quick and accurate reply!
Bruce.

RS2000 Large report fails to export to Excel

I have large report (200 pages, landscape 14x8.5) that will not export to
Excel.
Last night we scheduled the report to email us the Excel rendered file. The
subscription page shows the following error.
Failure sending mail: Exception of type
Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportRendering.ReportRenderingException was
thrown.
We ran the report manually today and tried to export through the Report
Manager and it tries to download a file that is only 1.84K large. When we
click save we get an error.
Does anyone have any idea what I could do get this report to export to Excel?
I've inlcuded the trace log below detailing the why the it would not send
the mail.

e493718d-bcfd-48fb-8420-908baa3f80c4200 pages? AFAIK, Excel can only have about 65000 rows maximum. That could
be the cause of the error, if the report have too many rows of data.

rs.CreateReport() with overwrite set to true fails to update report description

When calling the RS SOAP API's CreateReport method, it doesn't seem like the report description is updated, unless I first delete the report and then recreate it.

Here's what my call looks like -
Warning[] warnings = rs.CreateReport(reportName, "/" + folder, true, buffer, null);

Is this a known issue?

Try

Dim descprop As New [Property]
desc.Name = "Description"
desc.Value = "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country."

rs.CreateReport(reportName, "/" + folder, true, buffer, desc);

Note, this is Visual Basic, you will need to convert it to your language C#

Hello Arjun B,

I'm having the same problem as you described in your post.

Were you able to find a solution? If so, what were you able to do?

Thanks!

|||lmttag - try hammer's suggestion. worked for me!|||

Thanks for the reply. I tried the suggestion. However, it still didn't work.

Here's the situation... We have a report that has been deployed to production a few weeks ago. Since then the report has changed slightly; two parameters have changed--one parameter went from not being marked internal to being marked internal and the other parameter's default value changed (just a simple string change).

Now we want to programmatically deploy the updated report to production and overwrite the existing report. However, when we try this, the parameters, as shown through Report Manger, have not changed. They're the same as the original deployment. And, there is no error/exception thrown that might be causing the problem.

Here's the code snippet:

System.Byte[] definition = null;
ReportingService2005.Warning[] warnings = null;
ReportingService2005.Property property = new ReportingService2005.Property();
property.Name = "Description";
property.Value = "Updated Report Description";
ReportingService2005.Property[] properties = new ReportingService2005.Property[1];
properties[0] = property;

string name = (string)dr["Name"]; // Variable that holds the name
string file = (string)dr["FullName"]; // Variable that holds the file

System.IO.FileStream stream = System.IO.File.OpenRead(file);
definition = new System.Byte[stream.Length];
stream.Read(definition, 0, (int)stream.Length);
stream.Close();

//warnings = rs.CreateReport(name, parent, true, definition, null);
warnings = rs.CreateReport(name, parent, true, definition, properties);

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry for so many post, but does it have to be the Description property? We have descriptions built into the reports, and, if we change the description property in code to get the CreateReport() method to work, then we'll lose the correct description for the report. And, we would rather not hard-code descriptions in our application that is trying to overwrite the report.

Thanks again.

RS Install fails with HRESULT: 2147942405

I previously had RS installed and working fine. Recently I tried to access
the local reporting server instance on my development machine and noticed
that it wasn't working. One thing led to another and I ended up uninstalling
RS and then found that I couldn't re-install it. The end of the "RS Setup
Bootstrap" log file shows the following:

I found a similar bug article
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;897020) but this
doesn't seem to affect my install.
I currently have SQL 2000 Developer installed and running under the system
account and there are no traces of previous RS installs that I can find on my
system but the Reporting Services install still fails right after it installs
the "Setup Support Files". Has anyone else seen this?Has anyone seen this problem? I've done everything to my machine that I can
think of and nothing seems to cure it. I talked to MS support and they have
records of similar problems but the only cure they have is to rebuild the
entire machine. This is not my preferred cure since this machine is a dev
machine and will take several days to rebuild. We've also had this happen to
another machine here so this can't be that uncommon.
The weird thing is that SQL Server 2000 and MSDE both install with no
problems it's just the Reporting Services install that craps out. I'm
thinking that this is just another one of Microsoft's poorly written installs
that corrupts Windows somehow.

RS Install fails on Win2003

Hi gang,
Heres the problem: When I try to run the setup for Reporting Services it
fails near the end, stating the following:
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services Standard Edition --
Error 29581. SQL Setup failed to execute a command for server configuration.
The error was: Database 'ReportServerDB' does not exist. Check sysdatabases.
Refer to the Server error logs and setup logs for detailed error information.
SETUP:
Windows Server 2003 Std. Ed., running ASP.NET and IIS.. This is the server
Im trying to install RS to. Im unsure which service pack this server is
running; it doesnt say anything just version 5.2 build 3790
Windows 2000 with SP4, running MSSQL 2000 Std. Ed. with SP4, this is the
server that I want to store the data on.
I have tried a couple of different settings to connect to the database; I
tried using the NT Authority\ Network service, the local machine acct, and
lately the administrator acct, but I still get the same error.
I would be thankful for any suggestions..
Take care,
ChristianSetup uses the user running setup to create the databases, make sure this
use is a dbo on your sql server. For some reason the database is not being
created, one thing we have seen before is if there is no default location
for DB's then setup will fail, so check to see if there is a default
directory for new databases.

I created a new user, gave him every single right you can possibly have, and
made him database owner of all databases.
I also went in under my database server's properties (in SQL Ent Mgr) and
specified a default database directory.
I tried loging in with different users, (both sql users, local/domain users)
but it is still giving me the same error: Database 'Report Server' does not
exist.
Does anyone else know how to solve this'

these in one of the RS setup dialogs? If so then that is not correct.
Setup uses the user that is running setup to create the databases. That is
the currently logged in windows user. If you want to use SQL Auth during
setup there are some command line parameters that you can use to make setup
use SQL Auth during setup. Look in the template.ini file for the
RSSETUPACCOUNT and RSSETUPPASSWORD parameters.

Don't use anything but the property. msiexec uses PROPERTY=value
setup.exe RSSETUPACCOUNT=sa RSSETUPPASSWORD=password

RS fails to render a report with changes just made

Scenario: Using VS, I deploy a new version of a report (e.g., change some
text) to ReportServer. When I view the report from the web server using a
browser, the report does not show the change.
I tried deleting the report from the server, and re-deploying. The new
report appears in Reports, with the new datatime stamp, but when it renders,
it still renders the OLD version! Eventually, the new report shows up (e.g.,
hours later).
I also tried using a new session of the browser; it makes no difference.
I tried using both server\Reports and server\ReportServer. Same behavior on
both.
I tried setting "report history" on "Site Settings" and on the properties
page of the report to 1 (the lowest permitted number). Same behavior.
I assume some kind of caching at the server level is the cause, requiring a
new setting in the Web.Config or rssrvpolicy.config, but I don't know what
those settings might be.
I am using RS SP2, and have duplicated the behavior on both W2K3, and XP,
and using both IIS5 and IIS6.
Any help will be very much appreciated!"JohnWoll" <JohnWoll@.discussions.microsoft.com> schrieb im Newsbeitrag

issues, this should be a client side vaching problem.

Please explain what you mean by "Try reloading the site with STRG+F5 in the
browser", maybe an example.
Thanks for the helping!

If you close IE and re-open it you should see the new report. I have never
not seen a new report (however I have not specified any caching). If you
have just taken the defaults when creating a report and have not set any
caching option in Report Manager then if you shut IE and re-open it you
should see the new report. Also, usually if you change the parameters and
run the report you should get the new report. Usually if I click on the
refresh of the report (not the IE refresh, you will also get the new
report).

>|||In answer to what I mean by using a "new session of the browser": I close MS
Internet Explorer, open it, enter the address for Reports, navigate to the
report and run it.
Here is the exact sequence I use:
-Make a change to a report using VS, e.g., change the value of a text box.
-Rebuild and redploy to ReportServer
-Launch IE, enter the url for Reports, navigate to the report, and the
change I made to the textbox value is not there.
-I delete the report completely, using Reports web interface.
-I rebuild and redploy the report. I close IE, open it again, enter the URL,
navigate to the report (which has a new datetime stamp), and run it. The
change is still missing!
- Changing parameters makes no difference.
- I am not using any caching, that I am aware of.
I appreciate the help. Let me know what you suggest I do next.

report appear consistently:
1. Delete the report from Report Server.
2. Redploy.
3. Change a parameter.
I can live with that.
Thanks, Bruce, for the suggestion of changing the parameter! I had tried
that, but not WITH deleting and redeploying.

the results are being cached at your proxy server.

RS 2005: Subscription fails with Internal error

Hi all,

I have a (for me) strange problem with subscribing reports.

I've setup several reports that I want to create monthly and store to a file share.
In BIDS Preview and deployed to the report server everything works fine.

Each of my reports has an own schedule (they'll be created step by step), export format is Excel, as credentials I use a local user, all parameters are set porperly.
When the time to render the reports has gone, I just see the following behind each subscription:

Failure writing file LIS04 : An internal error occurred on the report

server. See the error log for more details.

The Log file contains the following: (I highlighted what I think to be the key error)

Does anyone have an idea what goes wrong here?

Are you running 64 bit RS? If yes, it looks like a known problem that will be fixed in SP2.
