RS2005 on Win2000

I've followed a couple of threads on this, but still haven't quite resolved the issue. RS 2005 is installed on a Win 2000 Server. The service seems to be running perfectly, but when I navigate to <localhost>\ReportServer, I get:

Reporting Services Error

The report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information. (rsServerConfigurationError)
Access to the path 'D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportServer\RSReportServer.config' is denied.

I've manually configured the webserviceaccount to the default aspnet machine logon since it's greyed out in the rs configuration screen. Once I manually added that logon, I've not had any errors or warnings in my log files. I've also tried messing with the folder permissions for this path, but no luck. So, I've read and tried a lot of things suggested on this forum. Anyone have the magic wand out there?

OK, problem solved. The ASPNET machine logon permissions weren't propogating down the full folder structure for some reason. It works now.

RS on Win2000 Server : Urgent help needed

Hello all
I have been having troubles installing RS Ent Edition on Win2000
server.
I tried with sql authentication and also NT/System account but always
get the error in the end saying
"could not activate RS. Have to activate manually before using"
I tried with rsactivate.exe but no progress.
Is there anything i am missing or blunderin here ?
the Win2k server is SP4
SQL server has Sp3a installed
Its a production server outside my domain and I only want to deploy my
reports there. So I didnt install VS.NET. can that be the problem ?
I currently have a development env where I have RS and SQL Server on
two diff Win2003 server boxes in the same domain.
What i am trying to achieve is to develop on my machine and deploy to
the RS on the production server.
Any suggestions will be sincerely appreciated.

BofoMaybe the rsactivate and rsconfig are using two different accounts. The
ReportServer service may also be using a different account that the
rsactivate and rsconfig.

RS installation Problem on Win2000

Hi,
I try to install reporting services on win2000 (sp4), everything went well.
when I try to access reports folder http://servername/reports I am getting
the follwoing error.
server has VS.NET 2003 and all latest service packs. I am trying for past
one three days to resolve this problem.

Yes, I can access http://servername/reportserver . I explicitly gave
permission to ASPNET account on Reports folder too. Still the error is same.
When I first installed the RS on the machine at that time it doesn't have
the Visual Studion.NET 2003, all it has is IIS, SQL 2000 (sp3a). I installed
the RS but it didn't worked. Then I installed Visual Studion.NET 2003 on the
machine but still the same problem.
Is Visual Studion.NET 2003 is madatory in order to run RS.
