RSCONFIG did not modify RSReportServer.config all the way

A couple of months ago we changed the username that SQL 2000 reporting
services uses to run. Since then it has been running fine.
Last week I tried to add a new user to the system and I get the error,
The user or group name 'DOMAIN\USERNAME' is not recognized.
The username it is returning is the OLD username that we replaced 2
months ago.
Here is the command line I am using RSCONFIG -c -s antbearxa\sqldev18
-d ReportingServices -a WINDOWS -u <USERNAME> -p <PASSWORD>.
The system runs fine, it is just when I go to add another user that I
get the error pointing to the old login account that is no longer
valid.

The user that I removed as the Reporting Services database login
account was still a user in the Reporting Services database. It was a
domain account and after we changed the account a few weeks later it
was retired. Once I deleted that user, adding a new user worked.
I guess it was in the validation phase after I tried to add a new user
to Reporting Services that it was failing. Now the question remains why
is a domain account that no longer exist in Repoting Services still
showing up?sql

RS2005 on Win2000

I've followed a couple of threads on this, but still haven't quite resolved the issue. RS 2005 is installed on a Win 2000 Server. The service seems to be running perfectly, but when I navigate to <localhost>\ReportServer, I get:

Reporting Services Error
--
The report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information. (rsServerConfigurationError)
Access to the path 'D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportServer\RSReportServer.config' is denied.

SQL Server Reporting Services

I've manually configured the webserviceaccount to the default aspnet machine logon since it's greyed out in the rs configuration screen. Once I manually added that logon, I've not had any errors or warnings in my log files. I've also tried messing with the folder permissions for this path, but no luck. So, I've read and tried a lot of things suggested on this forum. Anyone have the magic wand out there?

OK, problem solved. The ASPNET machine logon permissions weren't propogating down the full folder structure for some reason. It works now.

RS upgrade Eval to Stnd?

A couple months ago we started a report server MS SQL Reporting Services.
The MS SQL is of course licenced but the Microsoft dealer by mistake sent us
an evaluation version of RS. We've used it for a couple of months and
yestarday it stopped working - its evaluation period passed. As it is
already a production system we are worried how to install the Stadard
Edition RS. How can we preserve all our reports and all their permissions?
Would a RS database backup and after RS reinstallation DB restore work?

I'd like to know what solution you came up with. I want to be 100% sure
before installing standard edition on top of evaluation edition. I forgot to
backup the keys, so will this have any impact ?

RS Setup Help??

I've posted a couple of times with problems after setup. Is there somewhere
else I should look for assistance in setting up RS when I can't get either
the Report Server or Report Manager working? Thanks.Hi, on wich system you try install RS and wich User-Account do you youse?
Are you shure you have enought rights for installing RS?
What kind of problem do you have?

I have a Win2K SP4 system with SQLServer2000K SP3a, VS.NET 2003, .NET
Framework Version:1.1.4322.2032 on a Dell laptop. All this was installed
under an administrator signon (the same one I try to access RS via browser).
After routine, using all the default settings, installation of RS
everything goes smoothly until the last screen that says:
"Setup could not initialize the report server. You must manually initialize
the report server before using it for the first time. For more information,
see the Reporting Services setup documentation."
This happened after every uninstall/reinstall. I then activated the service
with:
rsactivate -c "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting
Services\ReportServer\RSReportServer.config"
When I check Services->Reporting Services it is "Started"
In SQLServer there is a ReportServices DB and a ReportServiceTempDB (along
with AdventureWorks). I can open VS and open the sample reports.
When I try to access the Report Manager http://<servername>/reports, I do
get a web page that says Home with only three links (Home, My Subscriptions,
Help), and no toolbars, or tabs, no navigation or new folder icons, or
anything else that I see in RS books..
When I click My Subscriptions I get an error:
"Unable to find script library
'/aspnet_client/system_web/1_1_4322/WebUIValidation.js'. Try placing this
file manually, or reinstall by running 'aspnet_regiis -c'."
When I run aspnet_regiis, I get the following error,
"Start copying the ASP.NET client side script files for this version
(1.1.4322.0)
.
An error has occurred (0x80070003)."
When I try to test whether Report Server is working with
http://<servername>/ReportServer I get this error:
"Server Error in '/ReportServer' Application.

had renamed the folder 'wwwroot' to 'OLDwwwroot' for security reasons and
when NET framework is installed it looks specifically for wwwroot to copy
such libraries (that ASP.NET apps look for)

>|||I had the same problem described above...and the odd thing is that at one time Reporting Services was working on this system. The problem was I had deleted a folder that was the root folder for the 'default web app' in IIS 6.0.
Solution
I pointed the default web app file path back to a valid path (c:\inetpub\wwwroot in this case) and restarted both IIS and the Report Server windows service

RS Setup

We have a two node clustered setup with couple of instances on each node. I
am trying to setup a reporting services on one of the nodes. For testing, we
did IIS install on the same machine. Used configuration tool and setup
reporting database on one of the sql instances. The install didn't report
any errors.
but now the problems is,
1. I created a report using VS business Intelligence tool and tried to
deploy it to report server -- but its failing. I get an error message .. A
connection could not be made to the report server
http://servername/ReportServer. ; Additional Information: The request failed
with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable (
Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer). There are virtual directories
'Reportserver' and 'Reports' under the IIS main folder.
2. Even when I try to do http://servername/Reports, I get an error -- The
request failed HTTP status 400: Bad request. I can see the page redirected
before dispalying this message to http://servername/reports/pages/folder.aspx
Any help is appreciated. We have a strong Group policy settings in place at
work on all these servers. All the services are running under the same
domain account except for ASP.NET service.

BVR.You may need to use the actual IP address as the servername may not be
resolved with the two-node setup.
To be sure I would "ping" the servername and use the reply IP address in the
TargetServerURL instead of the servername...
See if that works!

I have the same problem. I have checked the scty setting on the Sites in the
IIS section of CompMgt and all seems OK, but when I right click the Site and
selct Browse, I still get Service Unavailable '

to have SharePoint running on the same IIS? If so, you need to tell
SharePoint that these web sites (or virtual directories) should not be
included.
Otherwise, try running "iisreset" at a command prompt (DOS window -
Start->Run-> cmd).

I found an article in the Support base that pointed to a conflict between
files from versions of IIS for W2003 and W2003 SP1.
I have uninstalled SSRS and IIS and will reinstall from W2K3SP1 media. Will
report back.
