RS2005 visual studio design tool

RS2005 ships with a version of visual studio 2005 for report development.
What if I have visual studio 2005 on my local machine. How can I add the
rs2005 shell locally? Are they any license issues?
ThanksI found that if I install VS 2005 after the report designer I lost the
report designer. My suggestion is to first install VS 2005. Then using the
setup for SQL Server 2005 install the Reporting Services client tools (i.e.
the report designer). This will cause the designer to be installed and
integrated with the VS that you already have installed.

After installing sql, the report projects are right there in VS and work
well. Damn fine work on this RS stuff - hat off to MS.

RS2005 Performance Test Tool

Dear Anyone,

Is there a tool that we can use to simulate the performance of Reporting services?

Our team will be implementing performance tests over the reports we created over the corporate network. in reality, we expect about not more than 500 concurrent users but it could possibly go higher. We would need to do stress testing.

I was wondering if there is a performance tool out there that can simulate numbers of users accessing reports from our server? Any recommendations on how we can test this?

Thanks,

Joseph

Hi,

rs.exe compile error

I am using the rsscripter tool to migrate my reports from the dev machine to
the acceptance machine. I am getting a compile error:
Running script "GlobalReportsLibrary\GLOBAL\rpt_100_PutAway.rdl.rss"
The specified script failed to compile with the following errors:

RS.SetReportDataSources(fullpath, dataSources)

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.Phill,
Does the fullpath have the .rdl extension, as it only needs the path and
name of the report.
One other method is to create a project in Visual Studio and try to debug it
there. Here are the steps:
In Visual Studio or download Visual Studio Express (Free)
1. Create a new Visual Basic Console Application Project: name it RSDebug
2. In the Soultion Explorer window - right click on the RSDebug Project and
select the Add Web Reference option.
3. In the URL text box add:
http://servername/reportserver/reportservice2005.asmx
4. Click Go Command Button (This step takes a while)
5. In the Web Reference Name text box add SSRSWebService
6. Click Add Reference Command Button
7. In the Code Window above the Module Module1 add:
Imports RSDebug.SSRSWebService
Imports System.Web.Services.Protocols
8. Below the Module Module1 add: Public rs As New ReportingService2005
9. Paste your script code in the Sub Main() procedure
10. Set your breakpoint and go.

RS and J2EE High Level Architecture Question

I am looking for a tool that allows me to generate lists, mailmerged letters
and reports from a J2EE application. Are there strong reasons in favor or
against RS, specifically in regard to integrating via the Web Service API?
Can I wrap RS in a J2EE-based interface and stream reports through the
application server, as opposed to exposing the RS management interface to
the end users?
Thanks for your input.Christian,

This is one of the RS strongest points because with RS reports are
web-enabled by default. In other words, once you deploy your report to the
report catalog there is nothing you have to do to expose it over the web.
> Can I wrap RS in a J2EE-based interface and stream reports through the

You bet. You can generate RS reports on the server-side your J2EE
application by calling the RS Render SOAP API. In addtion, the Report Server
supports URL addressibility where a HTTP-GET request is generated on the
client side of the application. You should carefully evaluate both SOAP and
URL addressibility to find out which one meets your app requirements better.

Hope this helps.

I don't see why not. the web service methods for RS include the RENDER
method. Since this is a SOAP call which returns a byte array (representing
the rendered report) RS is client agnostic. have at it.
hope this helps.
